    Great Reader Tip:

To keep the liquid detergent stirred up, put a few marbles in the storage jug.  The marbles will help mix everything and keep it mixed.

    Liquid Laundry Detergent:

    First Recipe:

    3 Pints Water

1/3 bar Fels Naptha Soap, grated

1/2 cup Washing Soda (Arm and Hammer, NOT baking soda though!!)

1/2 cup 20 Mule Team Borax

2 Gallon bucket to mix it in

1 Quart hot water Hot Water

Mix Fels Naptha soap in a saucepan with 3 pints hot water and heat on low until dissolved. Stir in Washing Soda and Borax. Stir until thickened, and remove from heat. Add 1 Quart Hot Water to 2 gallon Bucket. Add soap mixture, and mix well. Fill bucket completely with additional hot water, and mix well. Set aside for 24 hours, or until mixture thickens. You may add additional HOT water if the mixture becomes too thick.  Mix Well before each use. Use 1/2 cup of mixture per load. Makes 64 loads. Cost per load .03.

    Second Recipe:

    Water

1 bar grated Fels Naptha soap

    5 gallon bucket

1 cup washing soda (Again, Arm and Hammer)

1 cup 20 Mule Team Borax

    4 1/2 gallons water

Put grated Fels Naptha in saucepan and cover with water. Heat on low until dissolved. Fill bucket with hot water and add soap. Stir to combine. Add 1 cup washing soda and 1 cup borax and mix well. As it cools, it will thicken. If mixture becomes too thick, add hot water to thin it to desired consistency.  May be used immediately. Mix well before each use. Use 1/2(normal) to 1 cup per load (heavy). Cost per load .04.

    Powdered Laundry Detergent (My favorite)

1 cup grated Fels Naptha Soap

    1/2 cup washing soda

1/2 cup 20 mule team borax

Mix and store in airtight container or bag. For light or small loads, use 1 tablespoon. For normal loads, use 2 tablespoons. For heavy loads, use 3 tablespoons. Cost per load .15.

To make a large batch - grate 6 bars of Fels Naptha Soap and then add 3 cups of Washing Soda and 3 cups of 20 Mule Team Borax.  Mix well and store in covered container.

TIP: The above recipes will NOT make suds in your washer so don't be alarmed.  Fels Naptha Soap is a pure soap and typically makes little or no suds in the water.  This makes it perfect for use in the new HE washers as well as tradional washers.  You will also notice the need to either reduce your laundry softener or in most cases you can even eliminate the use of softener completely.

Love the convenience of pre-grated Fels Naptha! January 28, 2010
Reviewer: Elaine from Grand Rapids, MI United States
I use the powdered recipe.  I do have a few troubles with the Fels not dissolving, but overall I'm very happy. I've been using this for maybe 3 years.

    A couple of ideas:

    * I use the 5-quart size ice cream bucket to mix and store my powder.
    * I have used the laundry soap mix as thank-you gifts.  I bought pint wide-mouth canning jars and small wooden 2T scoops.  I tied the scoop onto the side of the jar with twine around the neck.

    Rids odors/brightest wash January 28, 2010
Reviewer: Kendra Campbell from Portsmouth, OH United States
This laundry soap recipe is AMAZING!!!! I love it!!! The clothes are cleaner and brighter than ever. No need to use bleach, which I'm very happy about. I have a handicapped son who is incontinent and I wash bedding first thing every morning, this recipe kills all the urine odor and makes all the wash clean and bright!!! I have to admit that I was skeptical that only 2 Tbsp. was going to be enough to clean a load of bedsheets, but I tried it and it worked!!!! Totally amazing. The money savings is also amazing!!! I hope this company never fails, I plan to be a faithful customer. If you spend alot on laundry soaps then give this a try, you'll be amazed. Another huge plus is how you can use these products to clean your house!! No need to buy multi-purpose cleaner anymore, just follow recipes for Fels-naptha,muleteam borax and wasing soda to clean everything. What a savings!!! Everything has a clean smell, not perfumey, just pure clean!

    Wow!! November 3, 2009
Reviewer: Susan Wells from Jacksonville, NC United States
I'm hooked!  I was skeptical, but for financial and environmental reasons wanted to try this kit.  I was amazed at the results!  Clean, fresh-smelling, SOFT laundry, with NOTHING but the homemade detergent.  Takes only a few minutes to mix up, and I only used 2T for VERY large loads.  Got out stains that had not come out with BLEACH!  Gave some to my married daughter, and she's impressed, too.  Our emails have sounded like commercials for your kit! GREAT service and quick shipping from your company, too.

    THANKS!

Love the product, but one little problem August 25, 2009
Reviewer: Anonymous person from Norfolk, VA United States
I have been using this product for over a year now, and love the job it does.  I only have one problem, my FELS Naptha soap does not dissolve well when I use the powdered recipe.  I don't know if this is my washing machine or the type of water, but I have switched back to the gel recipe.

    Love it! February 12, 2009
Reviewer: Laurie H. from Pflugerville, TX United States
I have a front loading washing machine, and they are notorious for developing a moldy smell after awhile which does get on the clothes.  After using the homemade detergent a few times, the smell is gone!  My clothes are also softer using this detergent alone than when I used store bought detergent and fabric softener together.  I'll definitely continue using it!
